About LANXESS High Performance Materials
The High Performance Materials business unit (HPM) compound portfolio includes the two product lines Durethan® and Pocan®, based respectively polyamide (PA) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). Both product lines are predominantly used in the automotive industry, as well as in the electrical
and electronics industries.
When used in automobiles to replace metals, these plastics significantly reduce weight and costs. They can be processed quickly and efficiently into components that sustain considerable mechanical, chemical and thermal loads, such as pedals, air conduction units for engines, components for
cooling systems and oil pans.
Our continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic pre-impregnated materials, or “prepregs,” under the Tepex® brand open up new possibilities in lightweight design. In combination with Durethan®, these fiber composites lend themselves to cost-efficient processing and mass production of many high performance components.
By producing caprolactam, PBT and glass fibers, we maintain our own supply of all the necessary inputs for the high-performance materials Durethan®, Pocan® and Tepex® – making us a more reliable partner for our clients.
