LANXESS Corporation earns EPA approval for imidacloprid-based termiticide
Pittsburgh, PA - In its commitment to develop and improve termite protection products for the expanded polystyrene (EPS) industry, LANXESS Corporation has successfully obtained a new EPA-approved label for its PREVENTOL® TM-EPS imidacloprid termiticide for the protection of EPS foam. This new label is the only imidacloprid-based EPA registered pesticide specifically for the protection of EPS foam against termites.
In addition, PREVENTOL® TM-EPS is also recognized by the International Code Council – Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) as an accepted treatment for EPS foam for below ground use in areas of “very heavy” termite infestation as defined in the United States Building Code. Specifics of this recognition appear in the ICC-ES Evaluation Service Report ESR-2918, issued February 1, 2010. LANXESS has performed testing on EPS treated with PREVENTOL® TM-EPS imidacloprid termiticide that has shown this treatment is highly effective against termites according to ICC-ES AC239, Acceptance Criteria for termite-resistant foam plastics. Termite species tested and approved in ESR-2918 are the native subterranean termite Reticultermes flavipes, and the invasive Formosan termite Coptotermes formosanus.
PREVENTOL® TM-EPS is a systemic, organic pesticide in powder form that is used at low concentrations and easily integrated into the EPS manufacturing process. It is non-abrasive, non-corrosive, and has low water solubility for long-term protection of EPS against termite infestations. The active ingredient in PREVENTOL® TM-EPS is also sold by LANXESS Corporation for protection of wood against termites and other wood boring insects.
LANXESS Corporation will be showcasing PREVENTOL® TM-EPS imidacloprid termiticide at the EPS Expo starting today in Baltimore, Maryland, through Friday, March 11.
