LANXESS Presenting Expanded Portfolio for Adhesives and Sealants at ASC Convention & Expo

  • Acquisition of Emerald Kalama Chemical strengthened portfolio for adhesives & sealants industry

Pittsburgh, Pa. – October 21, 2021–Specialty chemicals company LANXESS will participate in the Adhesives and Sealants Council (ASC) Convention & Expo taking place October 25-27, 2021 in Championsgate, Florida. LANXESS is a leading supplier of a wide range of specialty chemicals and additives for adhesive and sealant applications, including plasticizers, modifiers, urethane systems and biocides and will feature these products from multiple business units in booth #308.


Expanded range of Polymer Additives


With the acquisition of Emerald Kalama Chemical in August, 2021, the LANXESS Polymer Additives portfolio now includes several product additions for the adhesives industry: K-FLEX® plasticizers, MODULAST® polyurethane modifiers and Kalama® VITROFLEX® plasticizers.


The K-FLEX range of non-phthalate plasticizers and coalescents help to optimize production processes and the properties of end products. They are highly compatible with polar polymers in water-based adhesive systems, helping to optimize adhesion, flexibility and curing and reduce brittleness.


Tailored for exceptional toughness, compatibility and permanence in polyurethanes, the MODULAST line of polyurethane modifiers offers tightly controlled quality and hydroxyl content, which results in very low emissions, color and odor.


Kalama VITROFLEX plasticizers are tailored for polysulfide sealants, where they provide excellent safety and regulatory profiles, exceptional permanence and low migration, low odor and enhanced hardness development, lap shear strength and adhesion.


Rounding out the Polymer Additives portfolio is LANXESS’ flagship brand of Mesamoll® phthalate-free general purpose plasticizers, which are compatible with many types of polymers including PVC, polyurethanes and rubber and are known for their good gelling behavior and exceptional saponification resistance.


Preservatives and Biocides


Another new addition to the LANXESS portfolio being featured at the Expo is Kalaguard® SB preservative – the only sodium benzoate preservative available under EPA FIFRA. It is non-allergenic, sustainable and effective in preserving waterborne systems up to pH 7 against bacteria and fungi.


LANXESS’ line of Preventol® biocides from the Material Protection Products business unit will also be featured. Preventol biocides are used in glues and adhesives for enhanced in-can preservation to protect the integrity of the formulation, as well as for adhesive dry-film protection.


Superior Solutions for the Hot-Melt Industry: Urethane Systems


Under the brand name Adiprene® LF (low-free), LANXESS has developed unique prepolymers with <0.1 wt.% free MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) and other isocyanates that are used for hot melt adhesives among others in the automotive, construction, electronics and bookbinding industries. This low monomer technology offers outstanding technical performance, exceptional processability and productivity, as well as environmental, health and safety benefits. The LF (low-free) technology and formulation knowledge enables LANXESS to vary chemistry in order to custom-design prepolymers for adhesives performance. Thus, Adiprene® LF products can fit into existing manufacturing processes.


LANXESS also offers additional Urethane Systems products for the adhesives and sealants market. Fomrez® polyester polyols contribute to delivering benefits from UV stability to excellent static mechanical properties for diversified applications, such as in books, metals and wood. A range of Witcobond® waterborne polyurethane dispersions serve specialty adhesive applications with focus on high solid content.
