LANXESS North America participates in Manufacturing Day on October 6 across the U.S.A.

  • High school video competition for a science lab makeover aimed at importance of science careers
  • Site events with local high schools in North Carolina and New Jersey

Pittsburgh, PA – October 3, 2017– LANXESS seeks to inspire the next generation of American manufacturers by supporting the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Manufacturing Day on October 6 and throughout the month of October. The two-pronged approach includes manufacturing site events and a video competition.

Site events with local high schools focus on advanced manufacturing and chemistry careers

On October 6, the LANXESS Urethanes site located in Gastonia, North Carolina will host about 40 high school juniors and seniors from Hunter Huss High School. The event will include advanced manufacturing career discussions, a chemistry demonstration, facility tour, and lunch.

An additional event on November 3 will be held with high school juniors and seniors from Woodbridge High School at the LANXESS Urethanes site in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

LANXESS supports workforce development and American manufacturing

LANXESS contributes to the foundation of American manufacturing with our U.S. presence and continued investments. At LANXESS Corporation, in North America alone, we have 26 facilities, including

manufacturing sites, laboratories, and administrative offices.

LANXESS is committed to supporting future workforce development through education and training of the local workforce. As an example, our partnership with Gaston College School of Advanced Manufacturing in Dallas, North Carolina, sponsors chemical operator internships in our manufacturing sites located there.

Video competition for high school science or chemistry lab makeover with first prize of $5,000

Throughout the month of October, over 400 high schools surrounding LANXESS manufacturing sites in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania are invited to participate in a video competition showing why their school needs a lab makeover.

"The video competition is designed to nurture the sense of curiosity that our youth hold and to reinforce the importance of chemistry and science to society," says Dr. Antonis Papadourakis, President and CEO of LANXESS Corporation. "The activity will engage students, help schools, and involve LANXESS team members. By taking part, schools will have a chance to win $5,000, $3,000, or $1,500 to buy equipment and supplies for their chemistry or science lab."

The video competition, entitled "Why Our School Needs a Science or Chemistry Lab Makeover," is a great opportunity for science or chemistry classes to work together on a video that demonstrates why their school needs to win. In addition to providing funding for lab equipment, the video competition will serve as an introduction of LANXESS manufacturing to students. It will also include career video interviews of employees with various roles such as chemist, chemical operator, shift supervisor, and chemical engineer. More details can be found at
