LANXESS to feature world class applications of colored concrete using Bayferrox® pigments at the 2011 International Concrete Expo

LANXESS is featuring world class construction projects from its corporate campaign, Colored Concrete Works®, at the 2011 International Concrete Expo (ICON Expo) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, from March 22 - 26.   Each application on display was colored with Bayferrox® pigments produced by LANXESS, one of the largest manufacturers of iron oxide pigments in the world.

Colored Concrete Works® is a world-wide initiative for LANXESS. Launched in 2007, it is a series of case studies that presents the versatility and aesthetics of concrete colored with Bayferrox® pigments.  Case histories of all previous Colored Concrete Works® sites will be available at the LANXESS booth, number 20436.  One site being featured is the Soccer City Stadium in South Africa, which highlights the stadium’s renovation for the 2010 World Cup Soccer Tournament with a new façade of glass-fiber reinforced panels colored with Bayferrox® pigments.  Another featured application is interlocking concrete paving stones and segmental retaining wall units in coordinated colors. Technical experts from LANXESS and its global competency center will be present to discuss the application of Bayferrox® pigments.

The manufacturing processes for Bayferrox® pigments incorporates the most sustainable, environmentally friendly techniques known for the production of iron oxide pigments.  The Laux process is one of three used for making Bayferrox® pigments.  It is discussed in the brochure “Sustainability – a matter of principle,” which will be available at the show.  The brochure defines each of the 12 globally accepted principles of green chemistry and provides tangible examples of the LANXESS technologies or processes that correspond to each one.  LANXESS launched its sustainability campaign in early 2010, and since then has been informing its customers about this important topic, and how Bayferrox® pigments can help their customers’ products meet the increasing demand for sustainable construction materials.

“LANXESS’ approach to sustainable production of our Bayferrox® inorganic pigments isn’t new but we are recognizing that, as a sustainably operating supplier, we can offer our customers added value,” says Joerg Hellwig, Global Head of the Inorganic Pigments Group (IPG).   “LANXESS will continue to grow its business in North America, where the demand for high quality pigment products and sustainable manufacturing processes are key elements for the success of LANXESS and its customers.”

LANXESS has been producing Bayferrox® pigments for 85 years at the world’s largest iron oxide facility, which it owns and operates in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany.  Additional production sites are in Brazil and China, and several custom blending and packaging facilities serve their local markets.  Bayferrox® pigments are available in powder, compacted, and granular forms, and meet or exceed all the rigorous demands of pigments for coloring concrete and concrete products.

The 2011 ICON Expo is the annual trade show of the National Concrete Masonry Association.  With numerous co-sponsors, this is the first time this show will be a part of the ConExpo-Con/Agg trade show that is held every three years in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The combined show will be the largest industry show of its type in North America.
