LANXESS to Showcase Technical Expertise at 2010 ACS Rubber Expo

Six technical papers from three business units covering a wide range of innovative materials and topics

Global synthetic rubber leader LANXESS will demonstrate a wide range of technical expertise with six different technical presentations at the 178th Technical Meeting of the ACS Rubber Division in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, being held October 12 – 14, during the Rubber Expo 2010.

Experts from the LANXESS business units Technical Rubber Products, Performance Butadiene Rubbers and Butyl Rubber will explore a variety of innovative topics and materials during the three-day technical program:

Technical Rubber Products:

Hydrogen Sulfide and Explosive Decompression Resistance of THERBAN® HNBR Vulcanizates
Presented by Dr. Victor Nasreddine, LANXESS Corporation
(co-authored with FAST/CDI Seals and Baker Hughes)
Tuesday, October 12 – 3:30 p.m.

This paper will focus on HNBR’s resistance to sour gases and
rapid gas decompression (or explosive decompression) and how
these properties depend on polymer and compound properties.

Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) Compounding with EVM and EVM/HNBR
Presented by Dr. Andreas Roos, LANXESS Deutschland
GmbH
Wednesday, October 13 – 1:00 p.m.

A study showing how performance elastomers such as EVM and
HNBR may be compounded to achieve halogen-free flame
retardant materials which meet the rigid demands of target
markets such as oil & gas exploration, renewable energies,
railway transportation or automotive.

Introducing a New Ultra Low Viscosity THERBAN® HNBR
Presented by Dr. Kevin Kulbaba, LANXESS Deutschland
GmbH
Wednesday, October 13 – 1:20 p.m.

This paper will present the properties and processing
characteristics of a novel grade of Ultra Low Viscosity HNBR
which can be used for liquid injection molding (LIM) applications
without the need for plasticizers.

Selective Crosslinking of FKM for Optimized Properties
Presented by Dr. Claus Wrana, LANXESS Deutschland
GmbH
Wednesday, October 13 – 4:35 p.m.

A look at the unique mechanical properties of the VF2/HFP
copolymer after it is crosslinked with hexafluoroisopropylidenebis
(4-hyrdroxy benzene (Bisphenol AF or BPAF).

Butyl Rubber:

Novel Peroxide Curable Butyl Rubber with Fillers
Presented by Dr. Lisa Knight, LANXESS Inc.
Wednesday, October 13 – 4:40 p.m.

This paper will highlight a new technology developed by
LANXESS to produce butyl elastomers with an increased
isoprene level that allows compounders to use peroxides as a
means to cure regular butyl rubber. Results of a design of
experiment (DOE) will be presented, with a special focus on
black-filled rubber compounds.

Performance Butadiene Rubbers:

High Cis-1,4-BR and SBRs to Meet Current and Future Tire Demands
Presented by Dr. Judy Douglas, LANXESS Corporation
Thursday, October 14 – 2:30 p.m.
This paper will examine and highlight

This paper will examine and highlight the influence that high cis-
1,4 polybutadienes (BR) and solution SBRs (S-SBRs) have on
the tire tread compound. Specifically, it will focus on novel BR
and S-SBRs aimed at reducing rolling resistance, improving wet
traction, and wear.

Additionally, the LANXESS Technical Rubber Products business unit will
feature its extensive portfolio of rubber products – HNBR, EVM, CR, EPDM, NBR and FKM – during the Expo in booth #305. Technical Rubber
Products from LANXESS have applications in a variety of industries,
including automotive engineering, construction, mechanical engineering,
aviation, adhesives, cable, oil & gas exploration, electronics and shoes.
