Be Safe When Outside: Avoid Tick & Mosquito Bites with Picaridin from LANXESS

  • Insect repellents with the active ingredient Picaridin (Saltidin®/ Icaridin) provide effective protection for the whole family
  • EPA registered and World Health Organization recommended

Pittsburgh, PA – April 20, 2021 – Life rarely throws one problem at a time at us … even during a global pandemic. In September 2020* the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified reversing “the upward trends in illness, suffering, and death from vector-borne diseases” (those spread by insects) as a priority. The CDC also identifies Picaridin (also known as Saltidin®/Icaridin, produced by LANXESS) as “safe and effective” in preventing tick and mosquito bites.**

“Mosquitos that may carry the Zika virus, West Nile Virus or Dengue Fever and ticks that may spread Lyme disease can be found throughout the US,” advises Dr. Nora Hofmann, Global Business Manager Saltidin. “And,” she adds, “one need not to be deep in the forest or on tropical vacation to encounter them. Many people are bitten in their own backyards or during sports like golfing or hiking and could become infected with serious diseases. You should therefore urgently take care to treat parts of the body that are not covered by clothing with insect repellents and thus protect yourself from these diseases.”

What makes Picaridin so effective?

Developed in the 1990s and registered with the U.S. EPA since 2001, Picaridin interferes with insects’ ability to recognize humans as a source of blood. Picaridin products provide up to 14 hours of protection (depending on the formulation) and are safe for the whole family when used as directed. Currently, there are several major brands of Picaridin-based repellents available in the U.S. and throughout the world, in various concentrations and application methods, such as sprays, creams, wipes and sticks.

Use with confidence on the whole family!

Picaridin is a highly effective, broad-spectrum insect repellent active ingredient that can be used with confidence on the whole family. Picaridin is appreciated for its skin-friendly properties. It is not oily, greasy or sticky on the skin. And, unlike other active ingredients, Picaridin does not damage plastics or other synthetic materials found on sports gear, bicycles, camping gear, fishing line and other outdoor equipment.

“Picaridin/Saltidin® appeals to those who are concerned about the disadvantages associated with other insect repellent active ingredients,” says Christian Lewandowski,  Product Manager for Picaridin in the US and Canada. “As an active ingredient Picaridin offers formulators the perfect balance of effectiveness, safety and user-friendliness.”

Recommended and registered!

Picaridin is a CDC-recommended, EPA-registered insect repellent active ingredient found effective in providing long-lasting protection from mosquitoes, as well as ticks. Picaridin is also recommended by the World Health Organization.***
