Governor of Arkansas visits LANXESS German headquarters in Cologne, Germany

Pittsburgh – June 22, 2017 – The Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, visited LANXESS CEO Matthias Zachert at the global headquarters in Cologne, Germany today. LANXESS Corporation has an increased presence in Arkansas due to the recent acquisition of Chemutra Corporation in April. The exchange allowed a general review and introduction of LANXESS and it’s future development in Arkansas.


“Arkansas is even more important to us following the recent acquisition of Chemtura,” says Dr. Antonis Papadourakis, President and CEO of LANXESS Corporation. “Our strategy includes a strong focus on North America. The addition of the El Dorado manufacturing sites and people is an exciting one and makes LANXESS in the top five employers in the state of Arkansas.”


LANXESS has four manufacturing sites in Arkansas: one in Little Rock and three in El Dorado, employing a total of over 500 people.


The El Dorado, Arkansas location makes bromine based flame retardants and derivatives for the LANXESS Business Unit Bromine Solutions. Bromine is used primarily to make chemical intermediates – building blocks that are used by other manufacturers to make basic materials that become part of industrial and consumer products, agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Flame retardants are used in electrical and electronic products, insulation, home furnishings and the automotive industry. South Arkansas is a bromine-rich area having the second largest brine reserve in the world.


The Little Rock, Arkansas location operates as a production site for the LANXESS Business Unit Rhein Chemie Additives. Here, Rhein Chemie produces high performance curing bladders, which are used in the tire manufacturing process.
