LANXESS Honored for Best Corporate Image Event at American Business Awards

Pittsburgh-based specialty chemicals company recognized at 8th annual awards ceremony

LANXESS Corporation, with North American headquarters in Pittsburgh, won top honors in the annual American Business Awards for its Unnatural Rubber event at the Andy Warhol Museum. The award, known as the Stevie, was presented on June 21 in New York City.

“As one of the leading global suppliers of synthetic rubber, LANXESS devoted 2009 to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the patenting of synthetic rubber and the critical role it has played in history,” explained Randy Death, president and CEO, LANXESS Corporation. “This event was a way for us to celebrate the anniversary and showcase the importance of synthetic rubber to a diverse audience with whom we don’t normally engage. I congratulate everyone on the LANXESS team who played a role in our winning of this prestigious national award.”

The LANXESS Unnatural Rubber event, held on October 14, 2009, capped off the 100th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of an art piece commissioned by LANXESS. The piece, titled “Wheel of Fortune,” took the form of a massive three-dimensional timeline of the production of synthetic rubber over the past 100 years, coated in tire-tread with a specialty tire rim at the end. It remained on display in the lobby of the Andy Warhol Museum until the end of January 2010 before travelling to other museums and LANXESS locations around the world. Synthetic rubber was celebrated in every element of the event, including theme, signage and even drinks, allowing LANXESS to creatively showcase an invention that has played a significant role in the world throughout the past century.

In addition to the Stevie Award for Best Corporate Image Event, LANXESS was also named a finalist out of more than 2,700 total entries for: Executive of the Year; Communications Department of the Year; Communications, Investor Relations, or PR Executive of the Year; and Best Annual Report – Print.
The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and business people worldwide. They aim to raise the profile of exemplary organizations and individuals among the press, the business community, and the general public.
